BACK AT IT AGAIN WITH ANOTHER TAKE FROM THE CONTROVERSIAL SOCIAL MEDIA SENSATION KEVIN SAMUELS. YET AGAIN HE FINDS HIMSELF IN A DEBATE CONCERNING GOD. HE CLAIMS THAT, "GOD DID NOT CREATE MARRIAGE, MARRIAGE IS A NATURAL CHOICE AND NOT A SPIRITUAL CHOICE."
In one of his recent debates with a listener the origin of marriage and its creation was brought into the the conversation. According to Samuels, "Marriage is a natural choice because if marriage was a spiritual choice God would be responsible for all the divorces and he is not."
He goes on to pose a question, "Were Adam and Eve married?" In which the woman he was debating with responded yes. "Who performed the ceremony? He presented Eve to Adam they didn't get married who did their ceremony Simba?" he further questioned.
Well, let's look to the Old Testament for answers. Because man and woman were created for one another, “a man leaves his father and mother and clings to his wife, and the two of them become one flesh” (Genesis 2: 24). Scripture teaches that the human institution of marriage is a far cry from what God initially established as the creator. Marriage is a culmination, a joining, so yes the physical and systematic portions of marriage a man made, but who was man made by?
It is we as humans who, not only allow sin into our unions, but also belittle and transform the very meaning of marriage. So yes, God is also responsible for divorces, as to end partnerships that yield no fruitfulness. If he can create mankind and all things of this earth what makes Samuels or anyone else for that matter disbelieve that he can also create and install sacramental practices.
It seems as if Kevin is completely discounting the true covenant that marriage forms between man, wife, and God. Society has transformed it into transactional fanfare in which the love shared between three parties is nonexistent.
However we would love to hear your thoughts on this matter. Do you think God created marriage or is it a manmade arrangement? Comment down below!
